Perch · Share your outings
Most photo sharing means picking one shot and posting it. But a birding outing is a whole story — dozens of scenes, common and rare, across a single morning. Perch lets you share the entire experience: an interactive, personalized timeline that anyone can explore.

Why I made Perch
For years, sharing my birding meant the same process: pick the single shot I liked best, edit it, and post it to Instagram. One frame, stripped of everything around it.
But birding, for me, was never just about chasing rare lifers. Much of the joy comes from the experience of the outing itself — being out at dawn with a group and appreciating the common American Robin just as much as the rare Blue-winged Warbler.
A single photo can't hold any of that. When I look at the bird, what I really see is the whole morning around it — the early light, the cold air, the moment it appeared.
So that's what I want to share: not just the bird, but everything it brings back. For the friends who were there, a Perch returns the morning to them; for the ones who weren't, it brings them along for the first time.
No algorithm. No feed.
Friends can like their favorites and leave comments. There's no feed to scroll, nothing deciding what you see, and no pressure to perform — just your outing, and the people you wanted to share it with.
Better with your flock
Link the Perches from a group outing and everyone's photos fall into one shared story — the same morning, seen through every camera that was there.
How to create your own Perch
Kestrel turns your outing into a timeline of scenes, with every bird found and tagged.
One button uploads the timeline — only the lightweight thumbnails, never your originals.
Add a title, write notes, mark your favorites, and arrange the story your way.
Get it out there however you like:
Privacy by design
Perch uploads the lightweight thumbnails Kestrel makes — never your full-resolution originals or RAW files.
Set each Perch to private, unlisted, shared with specific people, or fully public.
Adjust the visibility of your profile or any Perch — and revoke access — whenever you want.
Perch never runs ads and never sells your data. You're a birder we're glad to have — not a product.
Perch is free for everyone.
Wondering how it's free? Cloud Compute subscribers cover the cost — Perch is simply my way of getting more birders onto Project Kestrel.
Analyze it in Kestrel, share it with Perch, and let people walk the morning with you.
